The article is devoted to the analysis of the theoretical contribution of the outstanding Russian scientist-bibliographer Yu.S. Zubov (1924-2006). A modern interpretation of the theory of "bibliography as a system of compression knowledge" proposed by Yu.S. Zubov in 1981 is given. The theoretical significance is proved by analyzing the ideas of Yu.S. Zubov for the development of the modern information environment.
