The library as an example of a modern ecosystem

The application of high technologies in the activities of libraries of various types is considered. Particular attention is paid to the transformative impact that these technologies have on the library as a social institution. It is concluded that an important factor in the preservation of the library as a social institution will be attention to its specificity as a cultural and educational center.
