Library science and social communication sciences

The article is devoted to determining the place of library science in the system of sciences. The arguments against the separation of the group of social and communication sciences are examined and refuted. The unity of the communication and information approaches to determining the essence of the document and the library as a communication intermediary in the transfer of social information is proclaimed. The information essence of library science and the qualification of library science as an informological scientific discipline are substantiated. The possibilities of combining scientific disciplines in the structure of scientific knowledge are shown. The differences of the theoretical analysis, necessary for understanding the essence of library science, and its reflection in the nomenclature of scientific specialties are noted.
