Biologically active substances of medicinal plants with antimicrobial activity (a review)

This review outlines the research work on phytoncide properties of plants belonging to different families, conducted since the discovery of volatile production by Soviet scientists till present times. The article reveals the works of foreign scientists. The lists of the plants that have antimicrobial properties, a description of the substances involved in protection against pathogens, the dependence of the accumulation of volatile production on living conditions in plants are given in the article. The author made an assumption about the feasibility of a study on the antimicrobial activity of the plant Astragalus membranaceus, Astragalus membranaceus Bunge; as well as on other plants growing in Buryatia, which have not been yet studied.
