When landscaping cities and towns, an important component of landscape compositions is the lawn, which occupies up to 60% in the structure of gardens and parks, and up to 90% of the area of stadiums and playgrounds. The article presents the material for a comprehensive assessment of seven main and nine additional types of perennial grasses and legumes for the arrangement of various types of lawns in Western Siberia. It has been established that when landscaping settlements of this region, Poa pratensis L. and Festuca rubra L are the best types of perennial grasses for creating high-quality decorative lawns (parterre, sports). Due to intensive tillering, they form a smooth, dense (11 427-11 843 shoots/m2) lawn grass with well-connected and trampling-resistant turf, which is estimated at 25-26.5 points on a 30-point quality scale. For the arrangement of ordinary lawns, along with Poa pratensis L. and Festuca rubra L., other main species with reduced decorative properties can be used - Agrostis alba Roth. and A. stolonifera L., Festuca pratensis Huds. and F. ovina L. Lolium perenne L. in the conditions of the West Siberian region has poor winter hardiness, and therefore it is not important for use as a lawn plant. From an additional assortment of grasses, the best quality lawn (of the second group) is formed by Bromopsis inermis L. and Agropiryron pektinatum B., which can be used to create ordinary and meadow lawns. Elymus trachycaulus L., Arrhenatherum elatius L., Phlum pretense L. and other types of grasses belonging to the third group in terms of the quality of lawn herbage can be used for the device of meadow lawns and soil-protective turf coverings.
