Biodegradable polymers, their properties and applications

This article discusses the topic of biodegradable polymers. Their definition is given and the advantages of application are described. The topic of the impact of biodegradation on the environment is touched upon. Overall, the article provides a comprehensive overview of biodegradable polymers and their potential as a more sustainable alternative to traditional plastics. Two types of biodegradable polymers are considered: natural and synthetic. The structural formulas and properties, the scope of application of the most well-known and common polymers are given: cellulose, chitin, starch, polylactic acid, etc.
