The article proposes an analytical framework for interpreting business ecosystems and ecosystem approach. The research was carried out on the basis of the analysis of empirical data on the functioning of modern blockchain platforms. The distinctive properties of modern business ecosystems based on blockchain platform solutions are determined, including the prerequisites for their creation, and the functions of the participants are shown. The “transactional ecosystems” and “decision ecosystems” with their inherent effects are characterized. In particular, the proposal of blockchain as a service was considered. A comparative analysis of the opportunities and threats of business ecosystems based on blockchain platforms has been carried out. The technological capabilities and competitive advantages of business ecosystems based on blockchain platform solutions are shown, which consist in creating value through automatic transactions within the framework of the network interaction of owners, partners, users and end users, ensuring high adaptability to market conditions and customer focus. The characteristic of the transformation of the consumer paradigm is given. It is noted that the development of such business ecosystems is inevitably associated with threats, in particular, leads to the concentration of economic power, monopolization of certain industries and sectors of the economy. This means that the functioning of business ecosystems requires adequate government regulation based on a cross-sectoral system of measures in the field of cybersecurity, suppression of violations of antimonopoly legislation and taxation.
