The indicated period became a time of serious changes that took place in the public life of the country, connected with the process of democratization, which led to a rather serious activity of religious associations in various fields. The cultural life of representatives of confessional associations was determined by two contradictory trends. On the one hand, the need to preserve the national culture. On the other hand, under the conditions of contact with various peoples, religions and cultures, it was assumed the necessity and ability not only to adapt quickly, but also the susceptibility of a different culture. Charitable activities, like other forms of social activity, contributed to the consolidation of diversely nationally and religiously urban residents, in the way all citizens could take part in their activities, “without distinction of gender, age, title, status or religion”. Charity, based on the religious background (“helping the poor”), was characteristic of all individuals, regardless of their social, national or religious affiliation, as they pursued a common goal - improving the situation of various categories of citizens who need help and support. Charity was a civil feat to save people in need, a feat that helped survive thanks to public support. By investing their capital in the creation of various social and charitable organizations, godly deeds, representatives of various confessional groups supported not only their coreligionists, but also helped all those in need, contributing to the development of the social sphere of the city.
