Blog as an internet genre

The authors analyse the problem of the genre definition in the context of the communicative space of the Internet and differentiate the concepts of “Internet-genre” and “speech-genre”. The Internet-genre is defined as a steady polycode type of Internet communication, in which the specificity of language functioning is determined by technical characteristics. The authors differentiate broad and narrow sense of the blog. In a broad sense the blog is a site (or the site section), which contains the dated textual or multimedia records located in a return chronological order and open for reading and commenting. In a narrow sense the blog is a site (or the site section), which contains the dated records of one author, who mainly describes day-to-day events. The authors specify media, pragmatic, structural and language parameters of the blog as a special Internet communication genre.
