Bekhterev's disease, also known as ankylosing spondylitis, is a chronic systemic disease of the human musculoskeletal system. It is characterized by damage mainly to the sacroiliac and vertebral joints, as well as soft tissues in the paravertebral region. Often, the symptoms of this disease are difficult to distinguish from similar symptoms of other diseases, which entails untimely and ineffective treatment, which can lead to complications. Bekhterev's disease remains a serious medical and social problem due to the predominant lesion of young people and a high risk of early disability. Raising public awareness of this disease seems relevant. The paper presents general modern information on Bekhterev's disease, including etiology and pathogenesis, clinical picture, diagnostics, treatment, as well as key aspects of the lifestyle of people with this disease.
