Fighting of Vasily Rozanov for the reputations and heritage of the “literary exiles”

The article deals with the problem of confrontation between the conservative andoppositional trends in the Russian thought of the 19th and early 20th centuries inthe light of Vasily Rozanov’s efforts to restore the reputations of the undeservedlyforgotten thinkers of the traditional turn of mind, to whom he devoted his book Liter-ary Exiles. Rozanov’s point of view is discussed, according to which a predominantinfluence in Russian public conscience was in fact not the ruling monarchy but theliberally oriented intelligentsia.
