Boris Aleksandrovich Turayev - his service to science and the church

Boris Turayev was a Professor at Petrograd University, a Lecturer at the Theological Institute, and from 1918, a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He was the founder of Egyptology in Russia, the creator of the Russian school of the history of the ancient East, and a recognized expert on Christian worship. He was also a member of the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society and a member of the 1917-1918 Local Council of the Russian Orthodox Church. He is the author of more than 150 works on ancient Egypt, Ethiopia, Mesopotamia, and the history of religion.
