The article, combining the genre features of the scientific obituary and bibliographic research, analyzes the main stages of the life and creative activity of the outstanding philologist and culturologist Boris F. Egorov. The aim of the work is to clarify his contribution to the study of Slavophilism in the context of the general state of research into this scientific problem in the USSR in the 1960s-1980s and in the Russian Federation in the 1990s-2010s. Attention is paid to the previously unknown facts of the scientist’s opposition to the bodies of the Soviet censorship for the possibility of scientific publication of the Slavophile heritage and the publication of objective research about it, not distorted by ideological conjuncture. The psychological reasons for the special closeness of B. F. Egorov to the main object of his study - Alexei Khomyakov (they are brought together by personal qualities: love of life and gaiety, the cult of knightly ethics, love of man, truth, Fatherland) are clarified. The main directions of the activity of B. F. Egorov and his disciples in the study of Slavophilism are demonstrated (in the form of a bibliographic review). The text of the scientist’s speech at the conference dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Yu. F. Samarin (2019) is published.
