The issue of marriage and divorce has gained a peak of social importance in recent years. The family is one of the main social institutions regulating the process of reproduction of the population. In modern society, the family is experiencing a crisis, the manifestations of which are a decrease in the level of marriage, an increase in divorce and an increase in the number of children born out of wedlock. The change in marital relations in modern society forms negative trends that affect the state of the nation in spiritual and economic directions. Over the past 15 years, the birth rate has decreased to 1.36 children per 1 woman. This creates serious problems for the State in terms of ensuring balance in the social security system, the pension sector and healthcare. The paper considers statistical indicators of marriage and divorce in Russia over the past 10 years, as well as public policy measures necessary to preserve the institution of family and marriage.
