The article discusses Britain’s ambivalence toward a union with continental Europe over the past seventy years. The authors come to the conclusion about the accidental inevitability of the United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union. The relations between Britain, the European Union, Germany and Russia, the causes of NATO expansion to the East, as well as provocations in Georgia and Ukraine, and the unproven demonization of Russia on many occasions are analyzed. The authors reveal the reasons for Britain’s desire for greater autonomy within the EU and the importance of its membership as one of the leading economies of the Union. The complexity of the implementation of Brexit due to the possible exacerbation of the internal problems of the United Kingdom is pointed out. The article expresses the conviction of the authors of the impossibility of a new referendum.
