This article analyzes the socio-economic and political consequences of the withdrawal of the UK from the EU. This process was delayed for more than five years and has had ambiguous consequences. The study covers the period from 2016 to January 2022. In addition, the article discusses the causes of this process, which dates back to the 1970s. The study involves issues related to the preparation and holding of a nationwide referendum in 2016 and with subsequent years of negotiations for signing the Brexit Agreement. In the practical implementation of the agreement between the UK and the EU, difficulties almost immediately arose. These include the expected problems of regulating the customs regime and the associated migration and legal issues. Brexit also threatened the cohesion of the UK as nationalists in Northern Ireland and Scotland began to demand the reconsideration of their status. In the final part, preliminary conclusions on the first year of the Brexit Agreement are summed up.
