The article compares the views of David Hume, Edmund Burke and Russian historian N.M. Karamzin. The author shows the influence of the English philosophers on Karamzin, which manifested in his understanding of the psychological factor of the historical process, the ethical and aesthetic meaning of the history, the ideas of immutability of human nature, and interpretation of the society as a complex organism developing according to certain laws. Any forcible intervention in the natural processes of its development - whether it is a revolution or the introduction of an ideal social system project - will invariably provoke a crisis at individual, group and social levels.
