Buddhism in ethnical Buryatia: retrospective of the development

On the basis of archival materials the article considers the history of the development of Buddhist faith in its retrospective. The Buddhism in its specific Central Asian cultural and historical variation sought to incorporate and assimilate the previous forms of religion and culture, reaching an organic alloy of Buddhist and not Buddhist elements that finally led to formation of rather same and steady forms of religious culture in the region in whole. Contemporary records and author’s own field materials testify that exactly with participation and assistance of the imperial management system the autocephalous Buddhist traditional Sangkha of Buryatia was formed.
