The everyday life of Russian province in the years of the First World War in the context of activities of municipal government

On the basis of materials of municipal government activities the author highlightes the main components of everyday life in the Volga towns during the First World War. Analysis of the work of city councils and district councils led her to the conclusion about the presence in the everyday life of the urban population, along with the factors that emerged in the conditions of the war period, of various aspects which were not related to the military era. The author focuces on the study of the minutes of meetings of the municipal institutions and identifies a variety of activities which were aimed to the welfare of the citizens and the improvement of town space. She stresses that municipal institutions needed to address the everyday issues of the development of the urban area, regardless of the circumstances of war which determined the limitations in the scope and timing of several projects, and often created direct obstacles to their implementation.
