Uranium-glass bead of the early 11th c. from Troitsky excavation trench, Novgorod

In 1999 in the course of excavations in Novgorod the Great a fragmentof glass bead was unearthed from the deposits dating to the early 11 th c. The bead wasoriginally of elongated shape, made of transparent glass green-yellow in colour. It wasshaped by the method of twisting glass mass on a rod. Comprehensive quantitativeanalysis of glass has shown a unique chemical composition of the sample. The materialmight be determined as Pb-K-Na-U-Si-O glass with increased contain of Zn, Ba, Zr, Sr,As, Sb, Bi, Ag, V.
