The article is devoted to the basic ecological principles of Buddhism and the possibilities of their application in environmental education. The aggravated environmental problems at the present stage of development of society necessitate the formation of environmental ethics and culture in humans, environmental behavior aimed at harmonizing the relationship between society and nature, which emphasizes the importance of environmental education. Buddhism, based on the principles of non-violence, compassion and the interconnectedness of all forms of life, includes many environmental values and practices that may be in demand in environmental education.
