The article presents some ideas regarding certain disputed aspects of the historical topography of the ancient Kiev, specifically the localization of the Church of St. Basil mentioned in the chronicles. Based on the analysis of the chronicle and archaeological evidence, it is concluded that the churches mentioned under the years 6691 (1184) and 6488 (980) - 6496 (988) are entirely different constructions. One of them was built within the “City of Vladimir” in the late 10th century, while the other was constructed in the late 12th century within the “Great Yaroslav’s Courtyard” and is identified with the Church of Three Saints destroyed in 1934-1935.
