Hedging frequency in scientific popular text and its implicative potential

The translation of scientific knowledge through the channels of mass media is illustrated with an emphasis on the linguistic features of popular science texts highlighting the problems of astrophysics. A special place is occupied by the study of the relationship between scientists and the readership through the prism of a journalistic text, as well as an analysis of the pragmatic role of hedging, which reflects the results of these relationships in the text. It is stated that the most frequent means of hedging are modal predicates that implement the author’s communicative strategy aimed at protecting judgments against potential criticism of readers.
