Chechen Republic on top first stage of the military conflict with the center of the Russian Federation: opinions, judgments, conclusions (mid-1990s)

In the 1990s, scientists from the institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences and individual higher educational institutions worked on the problem of the Chechen crisis. Scientists set forth their attitude to these events both in their individual works and in generalizing works, collections of documents published by them, and reviews of publications. The summarizing document was presented to the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation V.S. Chernomyrdin. The problem, the reasons for its occurrence, evolution, the social aspect, the results were the subject of study in fresh traces, they were reflected in various kinds of scientific works. It is possible that this was the first attempt to understand the conflict that happened, to present its vision of the development of the situation, to determine the possibility of proposing measures to overcome the crisis, to reduce the damage caused primarily to ethnic communities living in the Chechen Republic, the economy, culture, and the search for a final way out of the conflict.
