The article deals with the changes of population size in the context of the administrative and territorial transformations of the Stalingrad region in the 1940s – 1950s on the basis of the statistic resources. There are demonstrated the consequences for the demographic development of the accession of the territory of the former republic of Kalmykia and the Volga Germans and the formation of the Astrakhan region.
