Age of the patient - one of fundamental factors in treatment of patients in orthopedic practice. The sources of domestic and foreign literature concerning influence of age, and also other factors on a choice of surgical tactics and, in particular, on an implant choice in orthopedics are analyzed. The technique of definition of an integrated indicator of a condition of the patient is “orthopedic age”. This indicator includes quality of life (on SF-36 scale), physical condition of the patient (Charlson co morbidity index) and quality of a bone in a zone of surgery (densitometry method). In the proposed scale allocate 5 degrees (similar to classification of chronological age). By means of this technique research of 318 patients of an orthopedic profile is conducted. Discrepancy between orthopedic, chronological and biological age is revealed in 15% of cases. The perspective of the application of this indicator in improvement of results of treatment of orthopedic patients is noted.
