Following the gradual change in North Korea’s ideology from Marxism-Leninism to Jucheism, we can observe how the interpretation of Korean history by North Korean scholars was modified, which ultimately led to revision of the theoretical framework into which the process of ethnogenesis of the Koreans no longer fit. As a result, in the 1990s North Korean scholars introduced a new Juche theory of nation, which became the theoretical basis for a new theory of ethnogenesis of the Koreans. This paper deals with the main points of this theory. The study is based on the analysis of explanatory dictionaries, several editions of the «General history of Korea», as well as monographs and articles by North Korean historians on this topic.
