A wonder of the Buddhist art: sculptures and freskos of Dunhuang

The article corresponds to detailed review on the catalogue of the exhibition took place at Istanbul, Turkey in November 2012, at the same time as the First International Congress of Eurasian Turkish Arts/ The exposition presented Buddhist temple’s art (namely, the masterpieces of Dunhuang Caves in China). Catalogue includes descriptions and photos of exhibits, analytical materials and commentaries on three languages (English, Turkish and Chinese). Data on the technological aspects of sculpting are given. The peculiarities of Buddhist «cave» art exposed with the special emphasis on the different views of scholars concerning its origin and components. The catalogue also characterizes in brief a unique cult complex which had been under construction during about one thousand years. As a result, a remarkable artistic style was emerged with a Buddhist Religion as a substance and multicolored murals, painted bas-relives and cult sculptures – as its expression. The authors of review ac centuate the representativeness of the exhibition reflected formation of Buddhist art in China, which had united and transformed Hellenistic, Indian and Middle-Asian traditions in this field.
