Chuvash nationalism in 1917-1920-s: problems of sovietization

The article deals with ideological transformations in Chuvash nationalism in the late 1910-s. Russian revolutions of 1917 contributed to the national movements’ activation. The Chuvash nationalists began to develop slogans for cultural and political autonomy. The October revolution brought into focus social ideas of the Chuvash nationalism. Compromise between the Chuvash nationalists and Russian Bolsheviks resulted in synthesis of the social and nationalist ideas in the Chuvash nationalism and formation of the socialist soviet version of the Chuvash identity.
