The digitalization of the economy in modern conditions is an inevitable consequence of scientific and technological progress. Achievements in the field of large databases, information models, primary sources of remote information acquisition and artificial intelligence determine the ways of development of project activities. The fuel and energy complex, being the backbone of the Russian economy and the largest consumer of information and communication technologies (ICT), is primarily undergoing digital transformation. The available world experience in the use of ICT makes it possible to assess the main aspects of digitalization of project activities in the field of construction of trunk pipelines - the use of BIM technologies and new sources of obtaining spatial information. In the field of pipeline transport, the introduction of BIM technologies is at the stage of implementing pilot projects, generalizing experience and assessing the impact of BIM technologies on the economic performance of construction projects. Based on the world experience in the implementation of BIM projects, it can be concluded that the digitalization of projects for the construction of trunk pipelines will most likely lead to an improvement in their economic performance.
