The article presents the provisions of an open lecture delivered by the author at the Book Section of the House of Scientists of the Russian Academy of Sciences on May 17, 2023. The main changes that have occurred in the book culture during digitalization over the past 7 years are analyzed. The concept of the digital world of reading is revealed. The actual tasks of scientific research of reading in library and information and related sciences are determined.
