Digital Technologies in Environmental Crime Prevention: Assessment of Effectiveness and Risks of Application

This article examines digital innovations such as online platforms, satellite systems, drones and unmanned aerial vehicles, blockchain and big data technologies, and artificial intelligence. It identifies their characteristics, describes their application experience in Russia, and identifies the range of problems associated with the use of these digital technologies. Solving these problems allowed us to achieve the goal of the study: to examine the most effective digital technologies used in the field of environmental crime prevention and to assess the risks of their use. In conducting the research, the results of which are reflected in this publication, general and specific methods were used: systemic-structural, formal-logical, comparative-legal. n order to increase the effectiveness of the use of digital technologies in the prevention of environmental crime, the following is proposed: 1) to develop a system of rules regulating the activities of developers of digital technologies used by government agencies in the prevention of crime; 2) determine at the legislative level which digital technologies, in what order and by which of the crime prevention entities can be used; 3) develop unified technical standards for the use of digital technologies in the prevention of environmental crime; 4) consider strategic planning of activities aimed at preventing environmental crime, based on the fact that the widespread introduction of digital technologies will significantly reduce the cost of environmental crime.
