Scientific interest of the Russian researchers of the Soviet village history and the socialist reconstruction of agriculture in the last decade focuses on the regional aspect of this issue. On the basis of archival materials and published sources, the study examines the problem of the relationship between the Soviet government and the peasantry on the example of the Far Eastern village in the late 1920s. The paper covers the social problems of the Far Eastern villages and the situation of the peasantry at the initial stage of the collective farm development. The desire of rural residents to improve their living and material conditions, as well as their reaction to the political campaigns of the Soviet government, is shown on the example of re-elections of village councils and grain procurements. The conclusion is made about the extreme heterogeneity of peasants’ political moods, the presence of critical assessments among wide segments of the peasantry, ranging from non-party people to employees of the party and state bodies at the lowest level.
