The article examines the essence of deglobalization of the world economy, the goal is to identify the causes and consequences of this process. Based on an analysis of scientific literature by domestic and foreign authors, as well as the dialectical method, a conclusion is drawn about the alternation of these processes in the world economic system. It is noted that the world economy was already entering a period of deglobalization at the beginning of the 20th century. It is concluded that inter-country inequality, reinforced by the imperialist policies of the most developed countries and their use of international organizations for their own purposes, is forcing some developing countries to move away from the modern model of globalization. It is argued that the costs of interdependence of national economies during economic crises and the process of development and implementation of technologies of a new technological order stimulate the use of protectionist measures. China is the main competitor of the USA, claiming to be the hegemon of the world economy. A list of the consequences of deglobalization is put forward, expressed in a slowdown in the international movement of goods, services and capital, a reorientation of global value chains, increased spending on R&D, and an increase in the popularity of national-patriotic anti-globalization movements. It is concluded that in its current neoliberal form, globalization contains a number of contradictions that can be resolved at the stage of deglobalization or transformed and move to a new stage of development of globalization.
