The short-sighted economic policy undertaken by the Russian government during the post-Soviet period of 1990-s, became a factor of negative processes that have been existing until now - deindustrialization and de-modernization. The privatization, which took place after the collapse of the USSR, was unprecedented, since its purpose was not to improve the efficiency of enterprises (which was typical for the Western countries), but to change the economic foundation of the society. Among the adverse effects of the domestic privatization the changes in the export sphere and the deep recession of the foreign trade in general are particularly noteworthy. The decision of the government regarding the large-scale leasing transactions for the acquisition of foreign aviation equipment for major Russian airlines, which affected the curtailment of the national aviation industry, was questionable. In addition, during that period, the share of unprofitable enterprises has grown, and also there has been a decrease of industrial production (especially it concerned the machine-building and the military-industrial complexes). Despite the positive opinions given by some experts to processes of 1990-s, the authors of the article do not support this point of view, but rather state the ongoing destruction of the productive capacity of the country as a result of the short-sighted economic policy of the post-Soviet period.
