Spiritual and moral education of sailors provided by the institution of orthodox clergy of the Russian navy in the 18th - early 20th centuries

Nowadays, the institution of military and naval clergy is developing in the Armed Forces of Russia. It was established in 2009 in accordance with the instructions of the President of the Russian Federation. Based on historical data, the author presents an original view on the role of the institution of Orthodox clergy of the Russian Navy in the spiritual and moral education of sailors in the 18th - early 20th centuries. Its forms and practices are presented. The research findings may be useful in enhancing the effectiveness of naval clergy developing the spiritual and moral qualities in naval personnel since the Russian Armed Forces are constantly to be put on high alert in a complex international context.
