The article, based on data introduced for the first time into scientific circulation, examines the history of the activities of the Publishing Council under the Holy Synod from its establishment in 1913 until the summer of 1917. During this short period, this synodal structure was headed as chairmen by Archbishop Nikon (Rozhdestvensky), Hieromartyr Basil (Bogoyavlensky), and the St. Petersburg Theological Academy Professor Archpriest Alexander Rozhdestvensky. Each of them contributed to the development of the Publishing Council. However, the article concludes that St. Archbishop Basil (Bogoyavlensky) made the greatest contribution to this process. It was thanks to his initiative that the process of transferring the rights to publish the Orthodox Theological Encyclopedia to the Holy Synod began. The Archbishop also put forward other initiatives that were extremely important and necessary for the educational activities of the Church, however, due to wartime and revolutionary upheavals, almost all of them, unfortunately, remained on paper.
