Activities of the Yakut Labor Union of Federalists in the Olyokminsky District in 1917–1918

The scientific article examines the activities of the national political party, the Yakut Labor Union of Federalists in the Olyokminsky District during the revolutionary events of 1917‒1918. Based on archival documents, it elucidates the historical genesis of party groups, analyzes the principal directions of their endeavors, and addresses issues pertaining to the financing of local committees. The study identifies distinctive features of the federalists’ activities in the Olyokminsky District, particularly the schism that emerged among local adherents to the union, culminating in the creation of a second party faction led by I.E. Gabyshev. Key conclusions dwells upon the fact that the primary foci of the party committee’s activities encompassed agitation among the indigenous populace, recruitment of new members, organization of assemblies, deliberation on contemporaneous political matters, adoption of resolutions, participation in electoral campaigns, and engagement in zemstvo functions. Involvement in the Union of Federalists represented one of the inaugural experiences for the local population in integrating into the political life of the district, region, and the country as a whole.
