Police activities in the estimation of young students of Irkutsk

The paper is devoted to studying young students’ opinion on police activities. “Public opinion” is considered as a unique social, political and philosophical phenomenon and as a legally recognized criterion to assess public authorities’ activities in general and police in particular. This paper is based on a questionnaire survey of young students of Irkutsk. The authors note dependence in the estimation of police activities on a social and economic situation in the region, the level of education, legal conscience and legal culture. The paper underscores a major impact of mass media on the estimation of public authorities’ activities. The authors demonstrate the importance of creating supportive relationships between the police and the population caused by the need of their cooperation in protection of public order, public security, and protection of citizens’ rights, freedoms and legitimate interests and during performing other duties assigned to police by the state.
