This article attempts to recreate the nature of the relationship between church and military authorities within the framework of the Russian monarchical system of government during the First World War. The role of the Most-Holy Governing Synod in the leadership of the military clergy, providing a high level of theological and moral education in extreme conditions of war, is determined. The functions of the military clergy, directed by the Holy Synod, are revealed. These research goals and objectives were achieved through a comprehensive study of theoretical and empirical sources.
