United Nations environment programme (UNEP) activities to promote the concept of green economy as a part of global system

There is a range of UNEP projects and initiatives directed to maintain complex of economic, environmental and social standards that ensure the sustainable development. The green economy is not an alternative of sustainable development; it is a way to realize such a development within the global system. Transition to the green economy can guarantee continuous growth, replace fossil fuel with pollution-free energy and green technologies. This transformation is able to diminish negative impact on environment and climate eliminating poverty and promoting increase in employment and households income simultaneously. Transition to the “green” economy has already started. That can be confirmed by numerous ongoing initiatives and projects, which were launched by international organizations and governments of the developed countries. However, there is an unanswerable question. Is it possible to remedy the shortcomings of the current development model in coming years and make economy green?
