The Ryazan Theological Consistory existed from 1721 to 1917. The accumulated documentation from this period has not yet undergone scholarly analysis. Some materials, primarily parish registers, are being studied. The history of the consistory’s secretaries has also not been investigated. This article is dedicated to the causes and features of the so-called “Ukhanov Case”, which lasted for about five years. In 1868, Ivan V. Ukhanov, who was expecting a pension, was dismissed from the position of secretary of the Ryazan Consistory. The new consistory head, K. I. Barsov, accused Ukhanov of document forgery, financial embezzlement, and professional incompetence. The analysis of the “Ukhanov Case” sheds light on how administrative procedures were carried out in the Ryazan Consistory and how the eparchial authorities influenced its operations. .
