Demarcation of the Russian-Chinese border as a responsibility of the Pacific border district

The research objective is to study the demarcation process of the Russian-Chinese border in the territory of Primorsky Krai in the 1990-s. The scientific relevance of the research consists in the author attempt to study this problem based on documents for the first time introduced into scientific literature. On the ground of a wide range of sources, primarily from the Central Border Archives of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, the author identified specific features in the Pacific Border District leadership approaches concerning the demarcation of the Russian-Chinese border, which differed from the policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The research analyses the activities of the regional leadership of the Border Guard Service on organization of demarcation, control of its implementation. Special attention is paid to the interaction between border guards and the government of Primorsky Krai on the demarcation of the Russian-Chinese border in the Pacific Border District’s responsibility.
