Demographic situation in the Republic of Buryatia

The article analyses trends in the demographic development of the Republic of Buryatia over the past two decades. It shows regional specifics and intraregional heterogeneity of the processes of population reproduction in the republic. On the basis of index method there are identified the factors of fertility rise and mortality decline in recent years. The most acute problems of demographic development and the structural shifts in population during the period between the censuses are considered.
