33 years have passed since the beginning of the Patriotic War of the people of Abkhazia in 1992-1993. Throughout this time, Abkhazia has been experiencing the demographic consequences of the war to this day, and they have not been completely eliminated even now. Based on the 2003 population census data, the 2011 census, as well as annual state statistical reports, the paper traces the fate of the warring generations, the resulting gender imbalance led to an increase in the proportion of unmarried women due to a shortage of suitors, a decrease in the proportion of births, and an increase in mortality. The cyclical fluctuations generated by the war led to the wave-like dynamics of the able-bodied and older able-bodied population. On the basis of statistical indicators and the author’s analysis, the causes and consequences of the war in Abkhazia in 1992-1993 have been identified.
