The article examines the effectiveness and validity of the state's demographic policy in two areas: stimulating the natality and protecting public health. the state is trying to substitute the concept of pronatalist policy with measures to support families with lower income, since the birth of the second and especially the third child leads to reduction in the financial situation of the family and other negative consequences. The author sees a lack of a long-term strategy in the policy of public health protection, which would reduce the level of morbidity and mortality of the male population to at least the average European level (EU-28). The author assesses measures taken by the state as clearly inadequate. The role of maternal capital in changes in age-specific birth rates and the impact of family benefits on the position of the family are analyzed. A conclusion is drawn on the need to strengthen the demographic policy in the field of public health. The article analyzes the age-specific mortality rates of the working-age population, which indicate too small progress in 50 years, and a huge gap in the mortality rate between men and women.
