The dialogue between archaeologists: fragments of a correspondence between P. S. Uvarova and V. A. Gorodtsov (on materials of OPI of State historic museum)

This paper gives an account of the correspondence between CountessP. S. Uvarova, the Chairperson of the Moscow Archaeological Society, and archaeologistV. A. Gorodtsov. For decades they maintained a dialogue that reflected the milestones ofV. A. Gorodstov’s professional career from an archaeological enthusiast to a renownedresearcher. P. S. Uvarova supported Gorodtsov for 20 years, she played a major role inhis development as an archaeologist. The correspondence reflects specific aspects ofthe Moscow Archaeological Society and the Russian History Museum activities as well asdevelopment of Russian archaeology at the end of the 19th - early 20th centuries.
