A differential microcalorimeter is described, which is intended for studying the effect of the environmental conditions on the intensity of metabolic processes in biological structures and tissues. The instrument enables to obtain dependencies of the process intensity on temperature and chemical effects. Methods and results of the studies on the effect of temperature on respiration and growth rate for two species of barley (Hordeum distichum L.) and two species of lilac are described. Studies were carried out to investigate the effect of various concentrations of methylphosphoric acid on respiration intensity and growth rate in barley (Hordeum distichum L.) plantlets. The results allow to make a comparative evaluation of early-maturing varieties, their resistance to the influences of climatic and detrimental factors.
