Acrylic plastics are widely used in manufacturing of partial and complete removable dentures. However, patients often complain of paresthesia (burning), dryness, and pain in the mucous membrane contacting with the prosthesis, which compels them refuse wearing the prosthesis or wear it for a short time. Hyperesthesia is observed in patients with both intact mucosa and mucosa with focal and diffuse inflammation. Almost all patients with thyroid dysfunction develop decreased salivation as a part of their toxic reaction in response to any materials (often associated with sialadenitis, particularly calculous sialadenitis). We have developed a method to prevent complications after orthopedic treatment of patients with thyroid hyperfunction with removable dentures. This method implies the use of pledgets saturated with a 10% solution of ‘Endonorm,’ which eliminates the negative effects of acrylates. High efficacy of the method was convincingly evidenced by total antioxidant activity of mixed saliva that reaches normal values 1 -3 months after the completion of orthopedic treatment.
