The paper publishes a dirham pendant discovered during the excavations of the Medieval Russia fortified settlement of Vshchizh conducted by an expedition led by B. A. Rybakov in 1949. The pendant was made from a dirham of the Abbasid caliph al-Mu‘tazz, who ruled in 866-869. Taking into account the period of this coin circulation in the Arab lands as well as a long period of its use as a pendant, most likely, it fell into the Vshchizh occupation layer at the end of the 9th-10th centuries.
